I feel so politically lost. I grew up in a "vote Democrat or die" home and was raised to believe that Republicans were the source of all problems in America. However, as the Democrats moved further to the left and I saw firsthand how the culture and policies of dependency impacted my family, I identified less and less with Democrats (I'm also a closeted pro-lifer and I'm not very sympathetic to illegal immigration so that doesn't help in today's Democratic Party). However, the current GOP is repulsive and amoral and there's no way in heck I can support their agenda which I think is chipping away at our democracy. I'm not going to vote Republican (haven't since Bush at the national level), but I don't feel wanted by the Democrats, so I feel lost. Voting for a 3rd party might feel emotionally right but won't help to solve our nation's problems. Is anyone else feeling lost and disillusioned in today's political world? If so, how are you coping with it?
OP, this is me also. Have voted Democrat in ALL the last presidential elections. Agree that the Democrats have gone so far off the rails, and that I absolutely do not feel that they care about or want my vote. I am actually going to be voting for Trump in the next election. I don’t like him as a person, but I can say that about many people I work with. It is what it is. Pick what issues matter most to you and vote based on those. Agree that you will not align completely with any candidate.
Such a predictable script.
Indeed. Anyone who would think that Trump would be a better pick for the country after what he has pulled is either brain-dead or completely amoral. Period. End of discussion.
You are entirely missing the point. You’re talking about Democrats who hate Trump, lol, but neither do they identify with the left. It’s called the “middle” and it’s where most of America belongs.
Yes, I agree with your point about the "middle". I count myself as a person in the middle. But any reasonably intelligent person who -gives thought to how they feel about individual policies and issues and tries to educate themselves through multiple sources about these issues -believes in the Constitution and the protections it affords -believes in the system with three branches that provide checks and balances -believes that our politicians should not only be held to ethical standards, but HIGHER ethical standards than the average citizen because of the power that they wield and the way their decisions affect all of us now and in the future -believes that good relations with allies around the world are essential for the safety and security of American citizens at home and abroad --I could go on but hopefully you get it-- any person who holds these things dear cannot possibly support Trump. Even if you took a chance on him in 2016, thinking he might rise to the occasion, it is clear he cannot and will not. If you love this country, if you believe in the principles it was founded on, you cannot continue to support Trump. And right now, on the national stage anyway, the GOP has lined up behind him to defend his obviously wrong behavior. The Democrats are not a monolith. If you fear the policies of the more left-wing members of the party, don't vote for them. Vote for a more moderate candidate. They exist. If you don't think so, you aren't paying attention.
I’m a PP, not one who would ever vote for Trump, and I agree. He is a despicable lawless person, and has violated every norm we value as Americans. Unfortunately, when you have someone as extreme as Trump, some people go in the opposite direction.
Yep, Trump doing this stuff is why we have AOC and the squad. The democratic party is very broad, and the activist portion is small. I have small issues with some of the candidates, but I'll still vote blue no matter who.
