Fortunately, the better, more experienced candidates defeated both Kautz and Plerhoples today.
Plerhoples has admitted she entered the BOS race because there were three white men running. She thought she’d appeal to enough voters based purely on her race and gender to get elected. Instead, the voters further to the left split their votes between her and McElveen, ensuring McKay’s victory. And now she’ll sit on neither the SB nor BOS.
The best thing that could happen is Plerhoples gets major write in votes in November for School Board at Large and wins a seat. Did the Fairfax County Democratic Committee steer her towards the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors? Use same BS rational as the pay to vote and allow non citizens to vote in a straw poll? FCPS is the weak link considering Fairfax County as a whole. All the blather about equity and it has severe imbalances of indoor plumbing:student ratios from site to site- basic access. See VA schools thread. Well it's finally bye bye Mr. Moon. That character lived in Fairfax County VA for 7 years and was an appointed member of the FCPS school board and was voting in Alexandria. Harvard educated lawyer who didn't understand the basic thing of you get to vote where you reside? https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/local/1995/12/07/fairfax-official-gets-jail-for-voting-in-alexandria/ad8a7132-5c34-45e6-bd03-c1ca0f1a4556/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.2db0db34ebc2
No, Alicia put herself forward for BOS. FCDC leadership was solidly behind Jeff McKay before she stepped in and looked to peel off voters. And she can’t now seek a position on the School Board again unless one of the other at-large candidates endorsed by the FCDC, or Elaine Tholen, withdraws, at least not if she wants to remain in good standing with the FCDC. She would have been easily elected to the School Board had she stayed in that race, but got starry-eyed about the prospect of a bigger prize. Maybe she and McElveen can fight again over Foust’s seat on the BOS in 2023.
