Just my opinion, but people are selecting these leagues for the player and coaching quality. Most of the clubs also field standard travel teams but put their best players and coaches with the DA or ECNL teams. The premium is for training with and by the best the clubs have to offer. The travel is extra and also occurs with the top non-DA/ECNL teams, so it’s really a wash. Agreed that for less competitive and/or talented players, standard “travel” teams and leagues make more sense.
The standard leagues also make sense for more talented, but less affluent players. The $10k + per year cost of ECNL and DA is a significant entry barrier for many families.
Don't many ECNL/DA teams have DP or PT players that would be able to train and play with the teams intermittently but don't pay the full fee. And it would it not be readily obvious if that player was talented enough? ID sessions are typically free, and there were multiple, what percentage of girls in our area per age group trying out for your teams reject the offers for ECNL or DA play? (Not teams, but leagues). Low? 7 VA teams (VDA,BRYC,LOUDOUN,MCLEAN, FCV, SPIRIT VA, ARLINGTON) so out of 120 girl pool, how many declined the ECNL/DA FT or PT/DP offer?
