Note that there is need based funding available for DA and ECNL club teams for talented players who are in need. Also, if they play in "standard" leagues and are superstars, their teams most likely will incur a lot of expense traveling to find equal competition for league games and tournaments. Or are we talking about rec playing wunderkinds?

I'd stand by the statement that the majority of talent is in ECNL/DA, especially on the girls side and especially in this affluent area. Sure, there may be a few in standard leagues all the way through U19, but it is not the norm and the average level of play is much higher in ECNL/DA.

Don't many ECNL/DA teams have DP or PT players that would be able to train and play with the teams intermittently but don't pay the full fee. And it would it not be readily obvious if that player was talented enough?

ID sessions are typically free, and there were multiple, what percentage of girls in our area per age group trying out for your teams reject the offers for ECNL or DA play? (Not teams, but leagues). Low? 7 VA teams (VDA,BRYC,LOUDOUN,MCLEAN, FCV, SPIRIT VA, ARLINGTON) so out of 120 girl pool, how many declined the ECNL/DA FT or PT/DP offer?

IMO, these leagues are for the players that have the money and some talent and are wiling to pay for them. It is a competitive league but you must realize that the pool of players competing for these spots is quite constrained, particularly on the girls side where there are no funded MLS academy type options. Do not think these league are more then they are. My kid does it but I see the families that choose not to and it is because of the money not because their kid cant make the team.

No one said they are all average. These leagues are marketed as being much more special then they are like every other product out there for sale. Make your choice and buy but differentiate marketing from reality.

Amen, brother, so let’s try not to pretend that the DA and ECNL kids are on par with the hordes of standard travel kids that they beat out in tryouts to make it onto their clubs. The idea that the DA/ECNL kids are all “average” travel soccer players across their own age groups is quite the fantasy.

Thank you for making your agenda point. There is disagreement on it. I agree that watching play between the ECNL/DA players and the other league players is the best way to judge. Of course, while you are watching, you should keep in mind the competition, which can make your favorite team look like world beaters or just plain average, regardless of their actual level vs the entire player pool for their age.

That still doesn’t change the point that folks are deriding other local ECNL clubs for poor performance when in the larger sense none of the other local ECNL clubs are really making any overall club noise beyond a couple specific teams.

There are plenty of average players in all these leagues. Sorry to burst your bubble but it is true and anyone paying attention can see for themselves. It is not rocket science. There are only so many kids with the time money interest and modicum of talent to populate all these high level deluxe teams. The more teams created, the further down the list we go to get players. Is what it is.

True, but there are plenty of clubs (DA and ECNL) that would be happy to collect $10K per year by selling to gullible parents that their DD and her team are special/elite/top/premier, etc.


Unless those clubs also own airlines and hotels no ECNL or DA club is collecting 10k per year.

Club collect half and the other half goes to nonsense travel expenses to travel all over and play other diluted teams. We are a all bunch of fools but not sure how to get out. The kids love this game. Wish we could blow up all this nonsense and start over with quality localized leagues with multiple divisions.
