Most of the clubs also field standard travel teams but put their best players and coaches with the DA or ECNL teams. The premium is for training with and by the best the clubs have to offer. The travel is extra and also occurs with the top non-DA/ECNL teams, so it’s really a wash. Agreed that for less competitive and/or talented players, standard “travel” teams and leagues make more sense.
The standard leagues also make sense for more talented, but less affluent players. The $10k + per year cost of ECNL and DA is a significant entry barrier for many families.

“They” aren’t idiots, it’s the same anti DA/ECNL cabal that have been here for awhile trying to make the case that their inferior players in the crappy leagues are just as good or better than the ECNL and DA kids. This is an agenda item here that keeps coming up thread after thread, by attacking clubs, coaches, etc. Sure, not every last one of the better players are in DA or ECNL, but the average level of player quality is MUCH higher. The standard travel level players don’t last on an ECNL/DA team long and rarely see the field if they do manage to stay on the roster but don’t progress. This is obvious to anyone who has observed the different options and has no agenda to implicitly pump their league of choice by trashing the big boys.

Sorry, diluted talent = average teams
True, but there are plenty of clubs (DA and ECNL) that would be happy to collect $10K per year by selling to gullible parents that their DD and her team are special/elite/top/premier, etc.
