The school the OP is talking about has got to be Cooper Middle School. The principal is just awful - she's been there for an eternity. She doesn't like any parent participation. The catchment area is huge but the school does nothing to make any of the children feel welcome or try to integrate the kids at all.
This hasn't been my experience at all (but I'm not sure what you mean by "integrate"), though I have had no reason to engage the principal. While she isn't very "warm," she isn't awful. I attribute her demeanor to being... a middle school principal in charge of kids with raging hormones. I have had pretty good communication with teachers regarding specific issues, but I do encourage my children to deal with school-related problems on their own. As for Langley, I (again) don't engage much because my child seems to know what's going on, but I've spoken with the counselors about certain issues and they've all been very helpful.
