I got pregnant in college. The dad and I split up right before I learned I was pregnant. He was not emotionally supportive at all and said he would only pay for an abortion. I had lots of emotional support from my family, but they had little financial means. I was determined to not choose between parenting and my education. I got WIC and also donations from a crisis pregnancy center. After my child was born, I applied for CS. It was not much, but I continued in school. I graduated when my child was a bit over a year old and then did my masters on a fellowship. Today, I have two advanced degrees and my baby is now a college grad herself. She and her dad have a complex relationship, but she’s very close with his parents and siblings. She was the first grandchild. Once they got past the shock, they were delighted with her arrival and pressured her dad to support her. [/quote]
