I know a few women who intentionally got pregnant when the dudes didn't necessarily want a baby.  In those situations, the primary motivator was that the women wanted a baby, not getting the man.  Two of the women couldn't have cared less if the father stuck around and neither of the guys did.  In the third situation, the couple really love each other and it turned out the guy (my cousin) was really excited to be a dad and they got married a few years later.  They're really happy together and recently welcomed their second child.

I also know a few truly unintended pregnancies involving teens that weren't careful enough with birth control methods or just didn't understand how to effectively use birth control (yay abstinence only education!).  My sister got pregnant on accident in high school when the condom broke.  She did NOT want a kid and was terrified to be pregnant.  Her then boyfriend was and is a complete loser and getting pregnant was a huge wake up call for her.  He bailed pretty quickly after the baby was born and my sister and child were much better off without him.  Another cousin didn't realize her low hormone BC pill had to be taken at the same time every day (yes she should have known that but 18 year olds can be pretty stupid) and wound up pregnant.  Hers was another situation where the guy turned out to be really happy to be a father and they got married several years after their son was born and are very happy together.

But no "I better squeeze out a kid ASAP to make this guy stick around!"  Pretty much everyone knows that if a guy wants to leave you, a baby isn't going to sway things (or won't for longer than a few months), guys skip out on their families all the time.[/quote]
