I hate that this thread has lived this long. 98% of the pants that are the price I can afford are capris. I hate them and need cover after experiencing multiple bouts of skin cancer. I have lots of those flowy linen type pants but they make me look heavier and boxy. I do not have a lot of options for pants for summer. Women are buying capris because the sellers are pushing them.
I think you need to adjust your attitude and styling of the flowy longer pants. Look for a way to define your waist in them. Get a pair with a zipper and button closure instead of elastic or drawstring. Wear a belt. Tuck in your shirt. Or try a top with a more defined waist. There's no reason that full length, flowy pants should make you look heavy or boxy -- proportionally they should do the opposite. But women are often trained to think that extra fabric adds "bulk" to their frame. It's not true. As long as they fit you properly and are styled correctly with other pieces, they should actually elongate and slim. Those trendy capris that come just an inch or two below the knee and are very fitted only look good on the slimmest possible women. A pair of flowy linen pants with a defined waist are MUCH more forgiving.
