It’s insane the length of delay in announcing these plans for next year…whether it’s GA and their current lack of transparency or ECNL making a open and formal announcement of the exact timing for the age change. Players and clubs should be looking ahead to the next adventure. But no.
ECNL is governed by US Club Soccer. US Club Soccer said the age matrix changes in 26/27. ECNL doesn't need to make a separate announcement. Why this is so hard for people to understand, I have no idea. https://usclubsoccer.org/age-group-cut-off-update-for-2026-27-season/
I am curious if they go with 9/1 or not. They seemed like they wanted 8/1 and per what US Soccer put out they could go 8/1 since no announcement maybe this is considered?? Also would like to see if they make any adjustments in the spring.
Ok, I think everyone wants to know if there'll be spring "adjustments" ... But at this point, asking if they'll go 9/1 is basically like asking if they'll go 1/1 (a nonstarter for a group that already made the announcement).
Its not possible to implement SY early for X number of players. If ECNL wants to maintain the integrity of the league. This is because different regional leagues play games at different times of year and they play various number of games per league. Theres no way to implement the rule evenly across the entire league. If its not implemented evenly theres a good chance some teams would have a serious advantage in showcases (which count for playoff seediing) and playoffs.
Here goes "integrity guy" again. Everyone would play by the same rules my man.
Ok you seem to think you know better. How would you implement a rule allowing 4 older trapped players to play down with another team in the "spring". Keep in mind... - Regional leagues play a different number of games - Regional leagues play different times of the year - Showcase results where different regional teams play each other count for playoff seeding. Make sure you keep your solution evenly applied to all teams.
The only thing they could do, that I'm surprised they didn't do, is relax the rules for their pre-ecnl leagues and showcases. Those aren't real leagues or competitions anyway, they're just for fun and experience, why not schedule those with the new age groups.
Unless the showcases count for standings, that’s a one time event and something that can be done and still may be done. Pre ecnl is different. Think through the logistics. The August-December players who aren’t top players on the u13 team come down to pre ecnl, where does that put 2014 August-December birthdays? The u11 team is still BY. Nothing happens in isolation. It’s easy to say one age group, one league, etc is going to do something different but the logistics of doing that can be quite difficult.
