The Dems are just as much to blame. Heck, most of the cities in crisis have been led by Dems for decades. Plus, Dems played a role in the federal policies that gave the power and money to the wealthy and essentially killed the American Dream. This all started in the 70s. We can't blame everything on the Repubs.

You can blame redlining though. And segregation. And other forms racial discrimination (in jobs, education, etc.) that have prevented the build up of black wealth. You don't remove those barriers and then get to declare an even playing field. At that point whites in general are already on third base in comparison to blacks just getting to come up to bat. The reverberations of our nation's oppression of black Americans will last for generations.[/quote]

Um...of course. But you do realize that Dems played a role in those bad policies, too? Dems were/are racist, too.

Yes, Dems have had plenty of racists in the party, especially in the mid-20th century who contributed to policies that kept AAs oppressed for most of the 20th century. Luckily many of those Democrats left when they saw the party was no longer willing to put up with them and was adopting civil rights into its platform. I know there are still racists who call themselves Democrats, though, because I'm from the midwest and know them. They might not call themselves racists, but they wouldn't be happy with  black family moving next door or their child bringing home a black spouse. That's the sort of cr@p AA's still have to deal with even in the 21st century.

I always find it interesting that Americans seemingly limit racism to AAs. The reality is that every single racial, ethnic, religious, etc. group has to deal with stupid bias, prejudice, etc. including white people sometimes. [/quote]
