I wish we could agree that Trump's comments were terrible, AND agree that Baltimore is similarly terrible and in need of scrutiny and overhaul...rather than have the PC knee jerk reaction of defending a city that so clearly needs better leadership.
I agree that Trump is terrible and Baltimore needs better governance. It is not lack of money, it is lack of leaders who use the money where needed.
Don’t want Trump to besmirch the poor blacks of Baltimore? Take away the reasons
Why just Baltimore, though? Why not St. Louis, or Memphis, or New Orleans?
Maybe some people hold the opinion he could do a better job focusing on his #1 priority: the constituents of his district instead of trashing the federal agents of the Border Patrol?
Just because he trashed Border Patrol, and justly so, does not mean his constituents are not his #1 priority. More likely, you all just don't like him trashing Border Patrol at all. So I say to you, if you don't like him trashing Border Patrol, stop giving him reasons to trash Border Patrol.
The President said there was a crisis at the border. Democrats called it a manufactured crisis. There is a crisis at the border. Democrats blame the President.
It really is this simple.
+1
And the blaming of the BP really is beyond the pale - as if BP is somehow responsible for the fact that there is nowhere to put the thousands of people descending on the border. They're doing the best they can and I certainly don't envy their positions.

The Dems are just as much to blame. Heck, most of the cities in crisis have been led by Dems for decades. Plus, Dems played a role in the federal policies that gave the power and money to the wealthy and essentially killed the American Dream. This all started in the 70s. We can't blame everything on the Repubs.

You can blame redlining though. And segregation. And other forms racial discrimination (in jobs, education, etc.) that have prevented the build up of black wealth. You don't remove those barriers and then get to declare an even playing field. At that point whites in general are already on third base in comparison to blacks just getting to come up to bat. The reverberations of our nation's oppression of black Americans will last for generations.
Um...of course. But you do realize that Dems played a role in those bad policies, too? Dems were/are racist, too.
Yes, Dems have had plenty of racists in the party, especially in the mid-20th century who contributed to policies that kept AAs oppressed for most of the 20th century. Luckily many of those Democrats left when they saw the party was no longer willing to put up with them and was adopting civil rights into its platform. I know there are still racists who call themselves Democrats, though, because I'm from the midwest and know them. They might not call themselves racists, but they wouldn't be happy with black family moving next door or their child bringing home a black spouse. That's the sort of cr@p AA's still have to deal with even in the 21st century.
I always find it interesting that Americans seemingly limit racism to AAs. The reality is that every single racial, ethnic, religious, etc. group has to deal with stupid bias, prejudice, etc. including white people sometimes.

Can you imagine any of the Trumps ever deigning to live in Idaho? They are urban elitists and would never, ever consider it.
This is rich, considering the way in which liberals on DCUM (and elsewhere) constantly trash talk places like Idaho as "flyover country." Forget the Trumps - YOU are the urban elitists who would never, ever consider living there.
Meanwhile, I have lots of family in Idaho. It's a beautiful, clean place. Hope to retire there someday.
I mean, “flyover country” is a very weak criticism when compared to what Trump said about Baltimore and her residents.
No one else has noticed the current state of Baltimore?
No one else has noticed the current state of depressed rural America?
Do all of your responses consist of whataboutism? This thread is about Baltimore. Keep up.
No this thread is about the President’s re-election strategy. I think they have decided that they will not win in diverse urban areas anyway and they need their base to turn out They are hoping to pump up their base but fostering “us versus them “ type divisions. That is why you have seen an increase in racist comments (“go back to where you come from “ to American born Congresswomen of color and the use of the word “infestation “ to describe a city with a large African American population. It is very deliberate. The 2020 election is going to be a turnout election so he wants his base to be daring to go, and for Democratic voters to feel depressed and worn out. I think he is counting on his comments to really resonate with his base (and drive up turnout) and also hoping that white, moderate voters in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania will not care enough to show up at the polls but might just end up fed up by the back and forth. The more he does this the more the face of the Democratic Party becomes people like AOC etc.

The OP made the topic Baltimore.
Yes I knew the White House has a rat infestation. The rats come from the Old Ebbitt Grill, a top grossing restaurant in DC.

It was Kennedy and Johnson’s Great Society Programs.
