It appears from the summary of BRAC feedback that the Region 5 representatives on the BRAC have recommended that a decision be made on the future use of KAA before any boundary changes are made that would affect Region 5, including Chantilly. It further appears that the BRAC representatives for that region are advocating for KAA to be a magnet rather than a neighborhood high school. Source: https://www.fcps.edu/system/files/forms/2025-09/advisory_priority_analysis_-_region_5_9-8_update_epg_0.pdf See the "new" priority identified on p. 9 of the document.
They just don't want their kids moved out of Chantilly to KAA. That's it. F* them. We deserve a school.
Isn’t KAA in region 1? Why should region 5 reps get to make decisions about what happens in region 1? Wasn’t that argument raised in relation to a different issue? Seems it should apply here too.
KAA is in the Floris ES catchment area. That's Region 5.
But isn’t Carson is region 1? And KAA physically located in region 1? Which one matters more?
Carson is assigned to Region 1 but physically located in Region 5, as is KAA. Either way, the Region 5 BRAC representatives aren't making a decision about what happens to KAA. However, it appears they are suggesting KAA should be a magnet. The Region 1 representatives commented on KAA as well, but their comment was "Integrate the forthcoming Western (West County) High School into every boundary scenario and secure the full design-capacity and feeder-pattern data now under development." That's more consistent with the notion of KAA as a neighborhood school. If I had to guess, the Region 1 comment likely came from the Langley representatives on the BRAC, who are very insistent that FCPS decisions be data-driven.
