They just don't want their kids moved out of Chantilly to KAA. That's it. F* them. We deserve a school.

I don’t live in the area, but this is a lame take. They have every right to argue for their kids not to be moved. You sound like the girl from Willy Wonka with this statement, thinking you are entitled to it no matter the cost to others.

DP. Spoken like a Great Falls parent who knows their kids should be moved, but would rather see no one moved (even in situations where parents want it to relieve overcrowding or a long commute) just so they get their way. Talk about not caring about the cost to others. Hypocrite.

Quite the worldview that all of the problems in your life come back to great falls. 🤡🤡🤡

What a weird take. I am a fairly casual observer of FCPS things, but paying attention to all this because one of my kids will have to change schools if the current maps are approved. It’s hard not to notice the Great Falls people being vocal about what should or should not happen with other peoples’ kids all so theirs don’t have to move. They think they are fooling people but it’s really obvious.

Grumble grumble, great falls. LANGLEY, Great falls, grumble grumble.

Therein lies the problem. There is no one from 20171 representing our families on the BRAC. Instead they gave organizations that pretend to represent FCPS families extra seats, when we all know that they are JUST representing Great Falls and Oakton.

Yes, the person who said they don't want their kids taken out of Chantilly is missing the point. I agree the families in the area who attend Chantilly would be happy to stay there--it is close--but they would be happy to have a school that is even closer.

No one in the KAA area that I can find is on BRAC.

I googled the names. I may not be 100% correct on locations as people may move, etc. and I could not find addresses for all of them.

Westfield reps live well on the south side of 50--no where near KAA.
Chantilly reps live on the south end of Chantilly boundary,
Oakton reps do not live in this area either. Appear to live near Oakton High School..
South Lakes reps appear to live in Reston which is not in Carson boundary--at least I don't think any live in Carson boundary.

There may be reps on BRAC from organizations who do live in this area, but I do not know of any.

So, are the decisions about KAA leaving out the opinions and wishes of those who most need and want it?

So, unless

Isn’t KAA in region 1? Why should region 5 reps get to make decisions about what happens in region 1? Wasn’t that argument raised in relation to a different issue? Seems it should apply here too.

RIGHT. But some parents in R1 have kids who go to Chantilly. NW Fairfax is so f*ed up.

A magnet school with priority given to a select group of schools. Very clear. A clear confusing mess.

KAA is in the Floris ES catchment area. That's Region 5.

But isn’t Carson is region 1? And KAA physically located in region 1? Which one matters more?

Carson is assigned to Region 1 but physically located in Region 5, as is KAA.

Either way, the Region 5 BRAC representatives aren't making a decision about what happens to KAA. However, it appears they are suggesting KAA should be a magnet.

The Region 1 representatives commented on KAA as well, but their comment was "Integrate the forthcoming Western (West County) High School into every boundary scenario and secure the
full design-capacity and feeder-pattern data now under development." That's more consistent with the notion of KAA as a neighborhood school.

If I had to guess, the Region 1 comment likely came from the Langley representatives on the BRAC, who are very insistent that FCPS decisions be data-driven.

It was by high school pyramid. Not middle. Carson is 3/4 way split feeder.
