Plenty of middle class and lower (Kate was "Middle Class" by English standards) want him. The Aristochicks do not, and did not 15+ years ago. He dumped Kate and tried his luck and it failed. He famously tried for Isabella Calthorpe, but she went and married Richard Branson's son. For the women in thee spheres, marryng into royalty is not necessarily an upgrade.

If you could choose to marry a billionaire and live your life footloose and fancy free or have to adhere to these norms and be a publicly dissected and ridiculed global presence, which would you choose? I'd choose the former. Add into that the drama of the obviously headed to failure Diana and Charles media circus that these women witnessed when young? Yeah, I'll take the low key billionnare without generations of family dysfunction.
