When there is a Democrat President and Republicans in Congress cause a shutdown demanding cuts, the Democrat says give me what I want or I will close the parks and museums and let everyone know how Republicans are ruining your vacation, maybe stopping you from getting Social Security. The Republicans state their demands and cave a few weeks later. Here, the Democrats make demands to avoid a shutdown, and the Republican President says if you don't give me what I want, I will do more cuts, getting more of what I want. The Democrats do not have leverage, but can't help themselves.
They do have leverage, you just don't understand it yet. If Trump follows through, Republicans are going to have a hard time getting elected for a long time.
Actually, you don’t understand it. This White House doesn’t care about Republicans getting elected. Trump is allowing his zealots to enact changes that will have long-lasting impacts on the federal government and be incredibly difficult to reverse in the future. They don’t care about mid-terms. They don’t care about polling. Anything negative is “fake news” or “rigged information” to this President. Besides most of the damage will be done by November of 2026. Meanwhile, Schumer and Jeffries look on like buffoons and the Democratic Party remains listless and in disarray.
DP. This really isn't accurate at all. Do you believe this?
DP I think they are correct. Democrats look like buffoons because they are not adapting to the current environment.
Shutdowns don't affect midterms, they never have. They do affect the immediate negotiations - which both Rs and Ds know.
If it goes to the midterms it will.
It won't. Come January 3rd, the Senate can do the regular appropriations bills with no filibuster allowed.
What are you smoking? Name me the seats that you think will get the Republicans to 60. Just name them. Hint: you can't.
Nothing about elections, which won't bring in new people next year anyways. Rules say no filibuster of budget bills. For some reason that doesn't apply to this CR, probably because they had a budget bill in May. Next year they start all over and no filibuster allowed.
