What is the name of the documentary?
“An Update on Our Family.” Yes, I finished watching it tonight. There wasn’t much of an ending. Huxley has privacy now and we’ll likely never get an update on how he’s doing. I hope he is well loved and cared for and happy. I also hope his name isn’t Huxley anymore. It was wrong for people to make death threats against the Stauffers, but I don’t feel bad that they suffered public scorn for the way they handled the entire situation. They were ill prepared for the realities of his adoption and they weren’t committed to doing everything they could to make it successful. I wonder how their other children have been affected.
My main issue with it was the general monetizing of private moments and using kids for revenue, and that's more problematic even with an adopted child. I also think they were immature and unprepared to adopt but I don't fault them for re-homing Huxley considering they could not do an adequate job raising him. It's a good outcome for him to now have an adoptive parent who is better prepared for his needs. It did sound like the money they made went to a lot of services and diagnoses for Huxley and they were just in over their heads. Ultimately losing their revenue and the public shame seems like an appropriate consequence.
