They should be lucky to even be considered along the U.S. elites.
I was talking to a british couple once. They were impressed by US state universities and was wondering why anyone would even consider private colleges and universities. I explained to them that private schools usually tout their English lineage, such as Yale residential college and Williams college’ tutoring. Americans are willing to fork over $80,000+ per year for the privilege of attending schools mimicking the UK system. To this, they rolled their eyes. Brits are the only people who laughs at HYP. If you don’t believe me, check out William Buckley’s talk at Oxford. During his introduction, the moderator mentioned one of his books, God and Man at Yale. You can hear oxford students snickering and laughing at this little country bumpkin from New Havens.
A British Couple Story without the trolling fabrications of the previous poster. I was talking to a British couple once. They were impressed with Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, MIT and were wondering why anyone would even consider going anywhere else. I explained to them that Harvard and Yale have a proud English lineage, such as the Yale residential college system. Americans are willing to fork over $80,000+ per year for the privilege of attending these schools. To this, they beamed with pride. Brits have a tremendous respect for Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford and MIT. Further, the Brits acknowledge and accept that Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, and MIT surpassed Oxford and Cambridge centuries ago. Once again the Definitive List of Elites (sans British institutions)! Elite of the Elites: Harvard Yale Princeton Stanford MIT Elites: Columbia UPenn Caltech Chicago Duke Northwestern Dartmouth Brown Cornell Hopkins Berkeley
People come here pushing their agenda. It’s not useful for parents who might be here for useful information.
