Hahaha you cant help but respond. Its obvious that Arlington is planning to group Aug birthdays by grade to everyone but you.
I'm not the same person you are arguing with, and it's also not obvious to me.
The reason Arlington asked for players grade is because they plan to group Aug birthdays with their grade in school team. Which can mean playing up or down. It depends on what your school districts cutoff was when they started school. They do this because its better for college recruiting when players get older, theres no weird 8th grade season when 9th grade players that play high school soccer, and most important teams become all one grade which makes things easier for the club to manage.
What will they do with July kids held back and are in a lower grade than their new age group?
Because hold backs are a year older than everyone else in their grade they will need to play on the team that their age allows. What this usually means is they will need to play on the grade team thats above them in school. When players get to be a junior in HS club soccer creates a u18/u19 grouping which allows hold backs to play on the team thats their grade in school.
Why not play them on grade? If you are going to force Aug player to play up, why not force July holdbacks to play down? Wouldn't u18/u19 be too late for recruiting? Are these July players doomed in terms of recruiting? What about an Aug kid who went to school on time but is on an advanced track, where in the future could graduate a year early. Should they play up 2 age groups to match their advanced status in school?
Its because leagues and clubs dont want to create a situation that rewards parents that purposely hold their kid back in school so they can be the oldest on the team. Other sports basketball / lacrosse dont have a strong club structure which means they allow hold backs to play on the grade team players define. Surprise surprise at around 6th grade parents start holding their kids back 1 or even 2 years so they can be the star. In basketball it gets ridiculous when there's a player thats 6 feet tall and can dunk playing against kids 5'6". When this happens what do you think happens to participation? The answer is it goes down exponentially because nobody wants to pay to play a sport that you have no chance at winning. (unless you hold your kid back) For soccer clubs want players paying all the way through high school. If they allowed hold backs you'd quickly see parents holding back their kid so they can be the star. You'd also quickly see participation drop right around 6th grade. Which is usually when holding kids back for an advantage in sports occurs.
