People hating on his speech need to understand that his very conservative Catholic stance is similar to the Orthodox Jew for Jewish people (heck even Amish have different levels). Now - was his speech appropriate? Well - it was for a very conservative private Catholic College. If you are a female going to that college you are likely already a very "traditional" and "conservative" catholic. As a "modern" Catholic I remember going to Marriage Prep class (a requirement for getting married in the Catholic church) and when the talk of "contraception" came up we had to take it all with a grain of salt. Because you aren't supposed to use contraception - it's all about Family Planning -- The Catholic Church teaches that the primary purpose of sexual intercourse is procreation. Therefore, it prohibits the use of methods such as condoms, diaphragms, and birth control pills to prevent pregnancy. He also pushed the TLM - Traditional Latin Mass - something also very conservative churches follow. Catholic churches are sometimes run more conservative than others as well for that matter. It's OK to be a SAHM or "tradwife" which is a trendy term now - heck if my husband made millions I would have loved to have been able to take a break and be a SAHM while my kids were in K-6 at least (or at least worked maybe PT). Now - I pushed for my DD to go to college too and get a career and she is her own person now about to start her career. And she is admittedly even less religious than I was. That being said she has told me that she does not plan to go right back to work after having kids (as I did)...wants to be a SAHM for at least the first years. Something I didn't do but honestly could have although money would've been tighter. That's her choice and honestly has nothing to do with religion and being Catholic. Here's the issue I have in today's world....WTF happened to Freedom of Religion??...combined with Freedom of Speech? Then we have Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII), which makes it illegal to discriminate against a person on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, and gender identity), or national origin. So what happens when these "protected classes" conflict? Is any protected class more important than the other? NO!! Equal Rights, Equal Protection.
