I just caught up in this thread. Whew. I guess with APE present we're going to have another nasty race. Too lazy to backtrack to quote previous postings but I agree that endorsements may not be handed out so freely this election. Both candidates are problematic for different reasons. I don't think Miranda had any real endorsements the last time she ran. I expect more of the same. There's very few Dems that want to be associated with perceived dark money and vouchers for schools coming from the right. Like it or not, APE is lumped together with all of those groups because they represent them in their "big tent."
No that's not possible. Because there is no actual race that is happening. School board elections are nonpartisan and candidates are expected to run based on political part. It's just that Arlington turned it into a partisan effort. And the Democrat candidate always wins. For those that feel strongly that the candidates presented aren't good enough, then they need to encourage someone they do want to run. If an independent wants to run, all they need to do is say they don't support the Missing Middle initiative because of impacts on schools, environment, blah, blah, whatever else the people in N Arl go on about. That person could be assured of a win. It doesn't matter that the SB doesn't get a vote on Missing Middle it's the idea that someone elected who says they don't support it has been elected an they will hold out hope they will weigh in to the county board and the county board will listen.
MM doesn't have anything to do with this race, but yes, you did try to distract again. Independents historically don't win in Arlington because this is a Blue town. Whoever wins the caucus will most definitely win the election. But maybe this time with two terrible candidates, someone who is a true progressive may prevail. Probably not, but hope springs eternal. Like I said upthread, yes that was me, Miranda is going to have to prove to me that she is an actual Democrat before I will even consider voting for her.
No, I actually addressed that outright in my post. :-) It doesn't matter that they are not linked, people in N Arl just want to vote someone in who opposed Missing Middle and it doesn't matter where they vote them in. Heck they would vote them in as PTA president at this point! It will make them feel better. Like they are being heard and they tried to do something.
