The available evidence suggests exactly the opposite of what you are saying. He apparently had a very good record in MI6. He was also very important in the FIFA investigation and, as a result, established his credibility with the FBI.

I might be missing something, but I can't see how the available evidence suggests that we give more credence to either one of these views. I haven't seen the FIFA report and I have no idea how good it was or how important it was, but the stories I've read never go beyond saying a report was produced and that the investigation, for whatever reason, caught some officials. I may be mistaken, but nothing says Steele's firm's report was especially key or even helpful. If Steele and co. were particularly adept at finding financial links in particular, that would be especially germane here.

And the first poster above is absolutely right about small time scammers around these businesses. Verification is tough, so it's easier than many think to put one past folks.[/quote]
