I wonder how people justify the price of these hotels and wonder how much time people actually spend there awake.

We travel a lot but stay in Marriotts.  We spend our vacation money on dining and activities.  Others spend on the hotel.

Ha, I posted a couple of hotels up thread without specifying this but this thread did make me feel poor too.  Almost all of the amazing hotels I have stayed in were either a) for work, b) on points accrued by work trips, or c) fabulous hotels in a seasonal or very random location where we went off season and got a great deal.  We have splurged for a couple of fancy resorts but those are few and far between and involved a lot of saving (and several were on our honeymoon).  Generally yes, this thread makes me feel poor too though.[/quote]

I will add though, on the occasions where we have been able to swing an amazing hotel somewhere, it has made a huge difference to the whole trip - particularly where the hotel has had amazing amenities.  Would that I could afford to stay in a  FS everywhere I go (but I cannot).  By contrast when we stay somewhere more middle of the road (often determined by points) we definitely spend less time in the hotel.  That works better in some locations (city with lots of sightseeing) than it does in others (beach resort where you may want to get out and see stuff, but may also want to enjoy the hotel amenities).[/quote]
