No, I don't get butterflies but I feel deeply grateful, warm, and secure when he tells me he loves me while we watch tv together.  We don't have butterflies anymore but we have each other's back and that feels wonderful at this stage in my life.

I both miss him a lot (in part because I realize that he'll probably die before me someday and then he will never come back) [i]and[/i] I luxuriate in all the space I have and being able to do what I want without having to worry about what he wants to do.

We've been married 26 years.

I think we're an example of things getting better once the children are raised and the debts are paid off and you have some extra money and time.  Plus I think it's really important that you carve out time for yourself so you don't feel smothered by your partner.  And finally, I learned by watching both my mom and my mother-in-law that I'm responsible for my own happiness.  Both of them blamed their problems on their husbands and yet they were devastated when their husbands died.[/quote]
