It's funny-- while I agree that it's a fad, for some reason having all white cabinets and a wood tone island looks nice to me, but that example of all wood tone cabinets with a white island looks terrible. [/quote]

+1  We have the dark island, light perimeter cabinets but I really don't like the reverse.  I like the dark island because those cabinets take much more of a beating between it being my primary prep space w/ the sink and dishwasher plus being where the kids sit and inevitably kick.  So, the dark cabinets are very functional since they don't show the dirt as much as the cream would.  But an all dark kitchen would be too dark for me.  I know the two-tone kitchens are kind of trendy right now but the kitchen we replaced had dark bottom cabinets and white top cabinets dating back to at least the 1950s or 60s.[/quote]
