I would never dream of not tipping the driver. My orders are usually pretty big. My rule of thumb is $5 for ever 3 bins (full), if the groceries are being brought into the foyer or kitchen which is just off the foyer. Today I had 15 bins. So the driver received $25. Of course if the driver was rude, I might not be as generous, but I've never encountered a rude Peapod driver. I am disabled, and my youngest son still lives at home. Occasionally, I have had to schedule a delivery when I'm alone. One of the drivers has been to my house several times and was aware that walking is a huge challenge for me. On one of the occasions I had a large amount of frozen foods and it was obvious it wasn't going to fit in my refrigerator/freezer. He asked how I was going to fit it all in. I told him I was keeping the extra items in coolers, hoping it would survive several hours, until my son arrived arrived home and could bring it to the standing freezer in the garage.he asked what items I wanted in there and he helped me find the items in the bags and loaded them them to the garage freezer for me. (Yes, I was his last delivery of the day so it didn't inconvenience any other customers.) Because he went what I would consider above and beyond, he did receive a much bigger tip. Waiters, waitresses, delivery drivers, and other such professions typically don't make huge salaries. If they are friendly, attentive and give great service, they deserve a great tip. A waitress once told me that if ever I receive bad service, do not voice my disproval by not giving a tip because it just makes me look like I was being a cheap jerk. She told me to leave a penny tip because that sends a stronger message. And to be sure to explain to the manager that you left your waitress a penny tip because the server was extremely rude. Additionally, if the food is bad, it's not the servers fault. It's the cook. So leave the traditional tip (for me it's between 15%-20%), and again, alert the manager.
