The teacher was blunt but not completely over the top or abusive, so she should have the support of the parents, who should reinforce her expectations and general respect for the teacher's authority over her own classroom, at home with the student. But that clearly does not happen in many homes in this area. Based on this thread and others similar to it, it is easy to see why students are increasingly showing disrespect or flat out contempt for their teachers. And we wonder why classrooms seem to be getting harder to manage, discipline problems are increasing, and our students report that the teachers have to spend too much instructional time handling student misbehavior?[/quote]
