What I hate about HGTV/Houzz.com is how it has changed people's perceptions of things. When you watch people house hunting now, they walk into an older bathroom (but functional) and instantly say "well that would need to be completely gutted and renovated before I can live here." It's unrealistic. Yes, it's nice to update things, but it isn't a "need" at all. Unlike the PP, I can't watch the House Hunters where they are in some flyover state and being all picky about the granite color when the house cost $159k. OMG. So wish we could have that here. Or anything close to it!
DC is very expensive and can be depressing. A few people here get it that you need at least a million for a decent home where as it would cost about 200k in Texas. Some people think that living in a shack some how makes you more responsible when the same cost house even after adjusting cost of living would be a McMansion else where.
