When you watch people house hunting now, they walk into an older bathroom (but functional) and instantly say "well that would need to be completely gutted and renovated before I can live here." It's unrealistic. Yes, it's nice to update things, but it isn't a "need" at all.
Unlike the PP, I can't watch the House Hunters where they are in some flyover state and being all picky about the granite color when the house cost $159k. OMG. So wish we could have that here. Or anything close to it!

Have you read any of the articles about HH? Often the other "choices" weren't even part of the actual home search. They could be friends' or relatives' homes, other listings that agents hope will get exposure by being on tv or listings that aren't even in the area the homeowners are looking. Although I admit that I do still watch the show too. Lately there have been some "less crazy" people on it (that cute couple from Seattle and another one I can't remember right now). All I kept thinking during the episode is what were they thinking going on this show.

Aside from the outright fakery, not everyone has a tell-it-like-it-is friend to bring along. Not every couple has an easily defined point of contention. (He's traditional and she's modern! He's Country Mouse and she's City Mouse!)
Hell, not every house hunt involves three (3) and precisely three (3) choices.

Please bring us back good shows where we can learn good decorating ideas showing us how we can do these things on our own. It is so sad tv today is lousy and such a shame hgtv doesn't capitalize on that and give us good shows and not so much reruns!
