While, for example listening to a conversation, one can capture far more detail and information using cursive than when doing block printing, and far less energy and effort is diverted into prioritization. Cursive is much faster than printing and can capture information almost as fast as the stream of consciousness - and that helps the brain to encode information far more effectively than choppy bits and pieces via block printing.
Exactly. Learning cursive also helps in brain development.
DS has ADHD, and his lack of ability to focus has caused some delays. He has a hard time sustaining focus on long, complex tasks. An example is a science experiment where they observe, take notes, and write a conclusion. I bought DS the "Handwriting Without Tears" cursive book. DS taught himself from the book in 2nd grade. He's doing so much better now - couldn't take notes before and is finishing projects now. His doctor noted that cursive uses the mind in a different way that helps one pay attention while their writing. DS is the only kid in his class who writes in cursive, but his teacher thinks its great. We've seen cursive as a plus, but we have a kid wired differently.
