It's very common for people who have problems reading facial expressions to look away from faces so that they can concentrate on listening. Looking away from the face decreases the cognitive load required to read facial expressions and lets them concentrate on just decoding your words. I have a kid with mixed receptive and expressive language deficits. He doesn't make eye contact when he is listening to people talk. He is listening as hard as he can. [/quote]
