For an old man to do that is one thing, but a young fat woman is beyond the pale!
Not sure about other men, but Adam Driver isn't handsome, and certainly on Girls wasn't more attractive than Lena Dunham.

To anyone who ever lived in Williamsburg or Greenpoint in Brooklyn in their 20s, this pairing get totally believable.
I am thinking of Patrick Wilson as someone who would never be with a Hannah type but slept with Hannah on the show.
But that episode was very specifically about this handsome, rich, married guy slumming it with Hannah. Like sort of the whole point was that he would never actually date her but he'd have weird daytime sex with her, whether out if boredom or attraction, who knows. The clandestine, kind of words nature of that hook up was the point, and the show never forgets that he is out if her league. Hannah forgets it, for a bit, but that's Hannah -- always happy to indulge a little fantasy about being the kind of woman she admires before crashing back to earth.
But even the concept of a handsome rich dude slumming with someone like Lena Dunham is ridiculous. It is a Lena fantasy.
Have you all really never seen a mismatched couple in real life? I’ve always weighed about the same as my husband; he is very lean, muscular and (I think) handsome. Since hitting menopause I weigh more than him. I wonder what people think when they see us together, sometimes, but no one knows what our interests are, our temperaments, our sex life, or the myriad things that bond a couple together. It might not be something you see everyday, but there really are plenty of mismatched couples in the standard aesthetic sense, even when the woman is less attractive.

She really sets people off. I also find her annoying but I find many celebrities annoying. I think the hate against her is much worse because she's not pretty and people do not feel she deserves to be famous as a result.
I totally agree with this. It's fascinating. And it's that she had the nerve to write a show where she was a character with romantic partners and show herself and her body when she is not conventionally attractive. It's triggering to people.
Like Mindy Kaling?
I dont know anything about Dunham so this may be from left field.
Mindy is actually funny though. Lena is annoying in a Woody Allen sort of way. Not everyone’s cup of tea.
I think they are both funny writers but prefer Lena's humor to Mindy's, who I find much more cloying. They are both from privileged backgrounds but Lena seems less entitled to me. Lena seems a little needy and like she takes herself too seriously, but I find that relatable. Mindy seems arrogant and entitled and like she's judging everyone else all the time.
Yes, Lena takes herself too seriously which is why her brand of “comedy” doesn’t work.

I also see a little high functioning autism there in a way that grates on people. This is going to sound crazy, but she and Taylor Swift are sort of similar to me- both famous millenials, both have some autistic /awkward behaviors and both are from parents who had money to help their daughters careers.
Taylor Swifts awkwardness is endearing and she is more attractive, so she collects fans, but Lena Dunham’s awkwardness makes you cringe as she is more abrasive, less of a social rules follower and less attractive.
