to bring some attempted calm to today's DCUM hysteria... As for why the child was taken at all, this part matters: ICE does not leave small children unattended when a parent is arrested. When a minor’s legal guardian is taken into custody and there is no immediately available alternative guardian on scene, the child is taken into ICE custody with the parent under family detention procedures. That is exactly what happened here. The child was not arrested as a criminal; he was placed into family custody because his parent was detained and there was no one else legally available to take him at that moment. Finally, the claim that the child is “a legal citizen born here” is not supported by the reporting. The articles describe the family as asylum seekers with an active immigration case. None of the major coverage states the child is a confirmed U.S. citizen. Saying that as a fact when it hasn’t been established is misinformation.
Please, don't bother the raving liberals with facts.
I was one of the first people to respond. I think it is better to keep families together than to separate them and said so (though I have since learned that there may have been a family member at the scene, so I may take that back). What is cruel, unnecessary, and in total disregard of the law is to detain a man who is LEGAL. The fact that they have no right detaining him makes taking the child along unforgivable.
Who determined he was legal?
Why are people not getting this? If you came to a border crossing and presented yourself to the guard and asked for asylum, you were assigned an immigration case number, you downloaded an app that would notify you of your court hearings and you were allowed to come into the country LEGALLY. The US Government allowed this father and son (and some other family members) to come in LEGALLY. So the US Government determined they were LEGAL. And according to the lawyer who has seen the immigration status papers, they were following the procedures LEGALLY. Yet the father and 5 yo were plucked out of their driveway and most likely sent to Texas. These aren't criminals - these are people who followed the US rules at the time and entered with the permission of the US. That means LEGAL. Got it yet?
Honestly, you’re kind to try to explain this but in reality, they just hate Hispanic immigrants period. Legal or not, they’re bigots. They don’t want to understand your point. They want preschoolers shipped off to cecot.
