For those of you with boys, did your son have a big sudden growth spurt during adolescent years or was it more gradual? I keep reading stories of boys who grew 10 inches in a year and the like, but that seems more like urban legend. Just wondering what your son’s real experience has been. DS is just turning 14 and seems to be a later developer so still waiting/hoping for a spurt. Will have a check up with the pediatrician soon but not really worried about it (I am the mom and was a late developer although DH was on time). When did your son have a spurt and how big was it? Thanks!
How tall is your son at 14? If he’s 14 and hasn’t hit growth spurt then that’s good for overall growth but not making JV teams. Most kids grow 8-10 inches through puberty.
He just turned 14 and is 5’5 and about 105 pounds. Last year at his 13 checkup the doctor said he was just starting the earliest signs of puberty. He has grown about 2 inches since then (which has been around his average amount through childhood). He still looks and sounds like a young kid (no voice changes). Hopefully the spurt will come soon - thanks for all the feedback despite things getting a little weird. I am not worried or panicked about it but he gets frustrated sometimes feeling a little behind, which is hard as a mom.
