Examine the your last STI test report. Do you see an HSV test result? You won't, because standard panels don't include it. A dare to those of you who think you don't have it: tell your doctor you specifically want an HSV test. You have nothing to fear, right?
I get tested every time I have my check-up and specifically ask for the HSV 1 & 2 tests. I don't have either and I don't care how common anyone thinks it is, I don't want it and no, I won't have sex with anyone that has HSV-2 even with a condom. Cold sores, which are HSV 1 need to be treated carefully. My long time GF of the past was ready to go down on me with a sore on her lip and couldn't believe when I explained why that's not a good idea. Even after I told her, she said I was wrong. HSV 1 rarely passes from mouth or face to genitals but it can happen and, if you're having an outbreak, you need to avoid oral.
