It isn't true that there are eno new concessions. Why do people keep saying this??? They agreed to abide by the Trump administration so-called anti-discrimination guidelines in terms of iuniversity programming, admissions, hiring, and other activities. This is a BIG deal. I understand why they agreed - not agreeing would be catastrophic. But Trump is trying to reform higher education and UVA just signed on.
What did you think they should do? They have thousands of students and employees, a hospital, clinics, labs, etc. that rely on government funding. If they refused to negotiate, wouldn't they lose their funding and possibly pay a penalty on top of that? People have posted what Columbia and Brown had to do already. That would devastate a state school.
As I already said, I get why they signed for all the reasons you list. I also understand why President Ryan resigned: he couldn't accept this but he didn't want to be the reason that everyone lost funding. But my real answer to what do I think they should do is not about UVA, it's about all the universities. They should have organized! They should have stood together and fought Trump. And so should the law firms. Unbelievable that they each settled individually. If the universities and law firms had stood together, they would have won.
