Only about 1/3 of Americans are virgins when they get married. About half of Americans have 4-10 partners over a lifetime, mostly before marriage. A small percentage of Americans have more than 10 partners over their lifetime.
Did you get your data from the church of LDS? 20 years ago, approximately 3-4% of Americans were virgins when they married. I found this number on a few academic articles from 20 years ago. I'd guess that number has only gone down - because while more young americans are virgins than ever before, it's likely because of how de-socialized they are, and specifically how men are basement dwelling nerds who no women want to marry - so we have a lot less marriages too. In other words, the numbers of nerdy virgin types are growing, but so are the numbers of non-marrieds, and they are likely the same pool of people. No woman needs to settle and marry a nerdy virgin. So those who marry are probably more social and normal, and less likely to be virgins, than even 20 years ago. This paragraph is just my hypothesis. But the data on 3% 20 years ago is widely out there.
