The recent war on alcohol, driven largely by the cannabis industry, drove people to these judgy, uninformed stances on alcohol. It seems reality is slowly starting to sink back in. If I'm lucky enough to hit my late 70s, have grandchildren, and friends to spend time with, you bet I'm going to have fun. I may even have a cigarette with my drink here and there. I can never really understand why old people spend so much time and bandwidth worrying about "long-term" health effects of things. Like, you don't have a long-term, just enjoy the time you have left. And to the judgy millenials--tell them to seek therapy and move on.
I don't know if it's a war and I certainly don't think people are giving up booze to smoke dope or eat edibles. The CEO of the largest beer maker in the world was on CNBC today and had to confess beer sales are falling off a cliff – and non-alcoholic beer was only 1% of sales. I really just don't think people under 40 and especially under 30 have a taste for beer. Craft beer is also dead. Drinking cheap domestic beers is like a boomer and poor people thing. I also wonder if Americans young adults being on so many prescriptions has something to do with it. It seems the average UMC 20-something has an Adderall and/or SSRI and/or xanax script.
