Don’t worry, the government jobs report will come out shortly and paint a completely different, rosy picture. Nothing to see here, folks.
So here is the thing. The report today is the ADP report, which is only private sector jobs. The government release later this week will be for ALL jobs. Given the demise of federal jobs, the report coming should be pretty awful. If the Trump administration wants to try to sell that private sector jobs are down but there is net growth because of public sector despite the DOGE impact, then his adherents are even more ignorant than anticipated.
Quite the conundrum for MAGA. But however MAGA lies about it all, inflation is growing and since Trump has tanked the dollar, inflation will only increase exponentially. This doesn’t even account for inflationary pressures from tariffs which are a mess in terms of policy implementation.
I bought groceries tonight. I am VERY much a bargain shopper. I'll gloat when it says at the register I saved $30 when the total I have to pay is $40, even though I know that means I paid what the prices should be. Because I have a lot of basics stocked up all I got was milk, plain yogurt, an onion, a small head of cabbage, couple boxes of store brand shredded wheat on sale, and a few cans of tomatoes and pineapple (fresh pineapple was $5, I think it would yield a bit more than my 2 cans but they added up to just 3.40). But definitely prices have continued to go up, except for eggs. More than $5 for an 8 oz block of kraft cheese. Also this store in the past has had a pretty good produce selection but, for example, the only cabbage they had (besides Napa) was green. No radicchio which they used to always have, not even red cabbage. A lot of other stuff has disappeared. Makes me wonder--high prices and also lack of farm labor???
