Just bragging now.... I've always been a saver. I've never had less than a year of living expenses.
I do not rely on anyone including the government. Stop living hand-to-mouth.
This place is filled with DC animals whose world is being shaken to the core, and a large part of the country is saying good.
Why is that? The entitlement mentality is rampant here. As if! You think you are necessary in government? Get real.
75% of the federal govt could be cut a few would miss it. 70% of the federal budget is transfer payments (money going from one person to another).

Do you want to spew your nonsense at the nearly 2M Floridians on Medicaid (the largest in the country). God forbid some of us in DC would like to help those out in a bad@sskward state.
You’re not better than other people. Your savings make you no more, or no less worthy of dignity and respect.
I never said I'm better than others. I'm saying stop putting me on the line for medical spending of complete strangers because you want to feel good about yourself by spending other people's money.
I'm further saying that you're probably one of the takers. Are we clear?
Hmmm, do you use the interstate highway system? how about meat inspected by the USDA? Or weather from NOAA? Or drugs tested and approved by the FDA? I could go on, but we live in a society where some people use some of the offered services, and others use other services. People who bike don't use highways. People who are vegetarians don't need meat inspectors. See? So you pay for services the Congress approves and the Executive is supposed to administer. It isn't a pay-as-you-go system, it is a government.

Microsoft is about to lay off 9,000 employees. It’s not because business is bad. Their stock is almost $500/share now and they’re one of the richest companies in the world. They’re laying people off because of AI.
Most people on this board are going to be laid off and need UBI in less than 10 years. The Dems aren’t going to save you. Trump isn’t going to save you. It’s over.
They're laying people off because of greed.
Companies have been laying off and using AI to replace them in the past couple years, and already are hiring and moving back to people because AI doesn't work.
Your view of AI is naive. It's rapidly improving (measured in months, not years). If companies are rehiring, it's because they're still calibrating around the current state of AI (which will be many times better in just a year). AI, plus the rapid pace of robotic innovation, spells doom for the job market. And technology cannot be held back. If the US tried to put the brakes on it, China and others would continue accelerating. Neither party has a solution for what's coming but, of the two, we know that the Republicans will do everything in their power to make sure people suffer.

come out shortly and paint a completely different, rosy picture. Nothing to see here, folks.
So here is the thing. The report today is the ADP report, which is only private sector jobs. The government release later this week will be for ALL jobs. Given the demise of federal jobs, the report coming should be pretty awful. If the Trump administration wants to try to sell that private sector jobs are down but there is net growth because of public sector despite the DOGE impact, then his adherents are even more ignorant than anticipated.
Quite the conundrum for MAGA.
But however MAGA lies about it all, inflation is growing and since Trump has tanked the dollar, inflation will only increase exponentially. This doesn’t even account for inflationary pressures from tariffs which are a mess in terms of policy implementation.

AI is ever evolving and is only going to get exponentially more advanced and capable as years pass. Jobs are going to continue to be lost at a rapid pace no matter what administration is in power because companies have a responsibility to their shareholders, not society at large. And getting your labor cost as close to zero as possible is good for business. And the rub is we are so far gone that even if we ban AI, companies in other countries will allow it and run our companies out of business because they have close to zero labor costs and massive efficiency surpluses because of AI.
We are in for a big shock in the next decade and both parties are too beholden to big corporations and big donors to make any changes. We’re screwed.

Why does everyone in DC assume everyone miserable. We are not.
For now. Only a matter of time.
We found one of the people who knows nothing about economics!
Basic economics—when you haphazardly, randomly, and suddenly fire thousands of federal workers throughout the country and do the same with government research grants, programs, contracts and subsidies—you f**k up the economy. You make it worse by giving trillions of tax cuts to billionaires and multimillionaires while cutting Medicaid, SNAP, Veterans programs, and other funding that affects people throughout the United States. Add TACO Trumps tariffs and masked ICE “agents” terrorizing people and you’ve created a shit economy.
News flash—when regular people get fired they don’t spend money. They don’t go to the local coffee shop, or out to eat, or put their kid in camp or daycare. Their spending slows and the businesses that have relied on receiving that spending aren’t getting that business/money so they not only make less but need fewer workers or have fewer hours for people to work. Trickle down economics from billionaires and mega millionaires DOES NOT WORK. Money in the hands of poor people, working class people and actual middle class people grows the economy.
People who sign their kids up for camps or classes or travel sports. People who go to dinner or rent or see a movie. People who buy diapers, school supplies, yard and lawn care items. Who hire someone to update the bathroom. No $-they’ll live with the ugly tile.
You know why the markets like certainty? Because people get nervous about spending when things are chaotic and they don’t know what’s going to happen.
Trump is America’s abusive husband/father and everyone’s walking on eggshells wondering when he’s going to explode or what he’s going to break next. That makes people cautious and is not conducive to economic growth.

Actual?
Down 33,000 private sector jobs.
https://www.cnbc.com/2025/07/02/adp-jobs-report-june-2025.html
Awful?
There are 330,000,000 people in the country.
33,000 lost their job (probably many of those are government jobs)* .
So, 1 in every 10,000 people lost their job.
Come back when your hair is on fire.
* "Federal government employment continued to decline in May (-22,000) and is down by 59,000
since January. (Employees on paid leave or receiving ongoing severance pay are counted as
employed in the establishment survey.)"
https://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.nr0.htm
The data shows that the 33,000 jobs lost were private sector jobs, not federal/government.
No one is spending money. Sales for most companies have been down since Yam Tits was elected because people knew the crazy was incoming.
My company has had multiple layoffs since the beginning of the year.
