I want the bolded, certainly. IQ and cognitive test scores form a bell curve, there's a lot of variability in the lower and upper 1%. They really should give those seats to the top scorers, because [b]these kids are often miserable in regular classes.[/b] The test cannot be "practiced" like knowledge test such as the SAT, it's a cognitive function test, which is very different.

Think about it this way though: the 99%ers tend to be in schools with all the other 99%ers, so how miserable could they be? The 90%ers are in schools with very few other high performers. Makes sense to me to give them the opportunity to be with other high performers. [/quote]

Yes, it's all relative. If they don't have a cohort of other students with similar scores in their school, then it makes sense to me to have those kids eligible for the magnet programs. Of course, it would be better if there were more magnet seats to accommodate all who could benefit.[/quote]
