I’ve never been skiing or to a ski resort. Grew up firmly middle class and we couldn’t afford it even in the 90s.
I grew up middle class. Skiing used to be in reach for middle class families. We skied on a shoestring all over NH and VT.
Maybe it used to be. But even Liberty/Whitetail/Massanutten are expensive these days. There is no rational way to argue otherwise.
That's because they can be. They are catering to rich DMV people who are getting ready for their expensive trips. There are still independently and cooperatively owned ski areas in the northeastern US. But going to them won't be as much of a relaxing vacation as just showing up at Stowe and having everything you need right there.
But by the time I fly to VT and rent a car, I’m better off just paying inflated prices at Whitetail.
Except VT has more snow and more terrain but okay. Enjoy Pennsylvania.
