I grew up middle class. Skiing used to be in reach for middle class families. We skied on a shoestring all over NH and VT.
Maybe it used to be. But even Liberty/Whitetail/Massanutten are expensive these days. There is no rational way to argue otherwise.
That's because they can be. They are catering to rich DMV people who are getting ready for their expensive trips.
There are still independently and cooperatively owned ski areas in the northeastern US. But going to them won't be as much of a relaxing vacation as just showing up at Stowe and having everything you need right there.
But by the time I fly to VT and rent a car, I’m better off just paying inflated prices at Whitetail.

1-day lift tickets are $328/adult, $213/child up to age 12.
So for our family of 4, it would be $1,082/day for just the lift tickets.
Remember that next tiem people complain about Disney World being expensive!
We used to ski in VT for $15-$30 per day. The prices now are criminal.
If you know where to look, and you're willing to ski at places that are 20ish minutes from accommodations, the prices aren't always as criminal as people assume. https://www.middleburysnowbowl.com/lift-tickets/
That’s nowhere near here.

How do they suck in this particular situation? Do you know anything about this situation? Do you know anything about union labor?
