If we accepted an offer and paid the initial fee, but didn’t “accept your assignment” via sports engine can we withdraw and choose another club? We just got an offer from the club she wants, but didn’t think she was high up on their list
You need to really look into this and verify. I think you are on the hook for the whole fee for the whole season and not just the deposit.
Don't take this as a legal advice, but a coach told me that it's hard to enforce. Apparently the commitment becomes enforceable after the player plays the first game on the club roster. But imagine the club suing a family for the club fee, then the player showing up for practice and games: that would be a really tense environment. I am familiar with a case where the player could not make it to the practices as scheduled by the club, so the club had to let the player go and refunded what the player paid in club fees. It was a few weeks after the tryouts and the club had to look for another uncommitted player.
As a general practice, I think it’s bad form to withdraw after you’ve accepted and potentially a breach of some type of contract that you may have signed when making the initial payment, but I do agree a club probably would likely not file suit to enforce. If you decide to try to withdraw, I’d suggest doing so asap. Waiting longer makes it less likely that the next player that the club would make an offer to will still be available which could increase hard feelings.
