Stupidity
Actually, pretty smart. Nobody can trap them into marriage and kids when they don't want. If they do get married their wife USUALLY will outlive them and take care of them in old age. They won't have the anxiety and cost of kids. I love my kids, and wouldn't trade them in for anything ... but if I didn't have them? Well, as a woman I might be worried about old age but I'd be working hard to make sure I had enough money to care for myself.
Money can hire people to take care of you, but it won't provide a family who will love you and be at your bedside holding your hand when you breathe your last breath. I'm not a kid person, but I have two kids. I'm grateful for them and love them very much. Both my ILs have passed. Most of their friends had already passed, and they were not close to their nieces and nephews. It would've been incredibly sad for them to die without loved ones next to them.
