MCPS budget for 2024 is $3,320,000,000. That’s $3.32 BILLION dollars. And that’s just the operating budget which doesn’t include Capital spending.
Thank you. How much do we need to trim from non-educational sources to fund enough teachers to have 1 or 2 fewer kids per class?
1-2 kids isn't going to make a difference, 5-10 kids will. There are lots of things to trim that are unnecessary. The BOE is the first thing that needs to be trimmed.
PP. I agree with you 100% but 5-10 is a pipe dream. The first thing we have to do is reverse course, so 1-2 fewer I stead of 1 more would take a Herculean effort.
It could be done if they stopped the waste. Big issue many of these schools don't have enough classrooms for the current teachers and staff let alone to add a few more classes per school. Given their budget there is no excuse for not having enough money, the cuts were completely unnecessary and they were doing it to bully the county council for more money. They need a full audit done and go line by line and cut out anything unnecessary. We pay millions to non-profits, MC and other places that are not directly related to MCPS or unnecessary.
