He loved his son but he also projected a lot of narcissistic, idealized fantasies on him from when he was a baby. She says he saw him as a playmate (ie. Peer or later even a hero. It was not healthy). She doesn't say the specifics but Eddie van halen apparently grew up in a very abusive, volatile house and had a lot of trauma. And it affected his son. She sees that now. I never got why she let her high schooler quit school to tour with his father and be around that life. But obviously she was outnumbered and underestimated how bad it would be. Or thought her popping in on tours woukd be enough of a buffer. It wasn't and she probably resents her ex husband now that she knows her son was damaged by it.
