I am not riding the metro again. This is ridiculous and DC needs to stop allowing criminals to run the city. This kid murdered someone and he needs life in jail without parole. Unfortunately, he will probably get a short sentence and be out in a few years because he is a minor.
Sentencing a minor to life in prison without parole is unconstitutional. You can thank Lee Malvo for that case law.
I know this, but I disagree with the logic of that SCOTUS decision. There are some rare circumstances where a minor is so violent and dangerous it's just not worth the risk to everyone else. Eg. the Browning case in MD where a kid killed both his parents and two brothers for inheritance money, may be eligible for parole starting in 2031 with "good behavior". A kid that does something like this does not deserve a second chance and it violates the rights (and safety) of the general public to give someone like this parole.
Y’all need to stop analyzing Sct opinions you don’t understand.
I do understand the decision, I just don't like it. Some minors deserve life in prison without parole.
