The only "wrap-around" services needed here is wrapping four prison walls around the killer.

Why do you think this would help? Most of these wayward kids are born to parents who didn’t want them and aren’t equipped to parent effectively. What we should do is focus on making birth control easily and freely available to low-income women.
Making it available does not mean they will take it or take it consistently.
You're playing a fool's game.

I am just now leaving the scene of the fatal shooting involving a minor at the Brookland Metro Station. I extend my deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of the victim. This senseless act of violence is traumatizing for our community.
What is known so far is that there was a fight involving a group of juveniles on the platform. A juvenile not involved in the fighting fired shots into the altercation, striking and killing the victim. 2 MTPD Special Officers who were at the station jumped into action.
MPD is currently coordinating with MTPD. Chief Smith shared that there will be increased presence in the area as they are actively working to solve the case. If anyone has information about this case, they are asked to call 202-727-9099 or text the anonymous tip line at 50411.
I know this is unsettling for neighbors and will be sharing more steps I’ll be taking with community partners to address the trauma caused by gun violence. I will also be doing everything I can to ensure the person responsible for this senseless killing is brought to justice.
What is your PLAN to deal with this, dude? We don’t need to “address the trauma” - we need to ARREST AND PROSECUTE CRIMINALS.
If they get tough on crime, it will disproportionately affect those of certain races. The council members therefore won't take steps in that direction.
And it will disproportionately save lives of certain races. But they don’t seem to care about that do they?
Of course they don't. Look at MoCo. They wanted to restrict hours of Hookah loungers to close at 3am just like bars due to lots of crim at these establishments:
https://moco360.media/2024/04/02/council-votes-to-restrict-late-night-hours-for-hookah-lounges/
CM Jawando opposed it because: "“This bill will put small businesses, mostly if not all, Black and immigrant [owned], out of business."
Luckily it passed anyway.
So the killer was trying to help?Anonymous wrote:My kid saw it happen. Teens jumping another teen. A friend tried to stop them from beating up the kid and when they wouldn’t, he pulled out a gun.
Horrific scene, see by kids from Latin(s), WLA, Perry, Truth, Brookland Middle.

It’s not “disproportionately”. In fact it’s proportional to the people committing crimes in this area.
Go to West Virginia or Southern Virginia and you may find a different type of person “disproportionately” ‘affected’ by crime.
Also, they’re not affected by crime. They create the crime.
Their victims are overwhelmingly POC, what about the impact on them?
And there's the rub.
The majority of POC are law abiding and suffer from being victims of these criminal POCs.
All the while, they are also being impacted by racism that can't (or wont) see they are two distinctively different groups.

Sentencing a minor to life in prison without parole is unconstitutional. You can thank Lee Malvo for that case law.
I know this, but I disagree with the logic of that SCOTUS decision. There are some rare circumstances where a minor is so violent and dangerous it's just not worth the risk to everyone else. Eg. the Browning case in MD where a kid killed both his parents and two brothers for inheritance money, may be eligible for parole starting in 2031 with "good behavior". A kid that does something like this does not deserve a second chance and it violates the rights (and safety) of the general public to give someone like this parole.
Y’all need to stop analyzing Sct opinions you don’t understand.
I do understand the decision, I just don't like it. Some minors deserve life in prison without parole.
