Actual bus rider: I want a trip that doesn't take as long.
Yes, that's why they don't want to be stuck behind bicycles. Of course, if you don’t ride the bus and only pretend to care about buses, you don’t see a problem there.
Which is quite different from imaginary bus riders, made up by those unfortunate few whose obviously unrewarding hobby is expressing bigotry against people when the people are using bicycles. I often think such people would be happier if they used a bike to go somewhere, every now and then, but what can you do? Everyone has to make these decisions for themselves.
I know the survey of commuters showed a pretty big demographic divide between bus riders and bike riders. But I didn’t imagine the divide was so large that all the cyclists commenting here seem to live in a bubble where they don’t even think bus commuters who don’t bike exist. It’s impressive. Your response to “please keep cars and bikes out of bus lanes” is to say I must be a car driver and then to tell me to ride a bike. The possibility that someone could think that buses should be prioritized on part of a few roads actually brings out anger and insults from you. That’s fine, but don’t get so angry at people suggesting lanes reserved only for buses and then call yourself a bus advocate.
