My local grocery store has a very sensitive bagging area or something, so any slight movement like adjusting my bag to make room for other items or opening another empty bag will give me "Unexpected item in bagging area" error. It's happening to many self checkout lanes and I see "waiting for assistance" lights blinking everywhere and so annoying. [/quote]

I didn’t mind doing self checkout until Giant went to this god awful system, it now I just use the staffed lanes. I mean the people actually stealing items aren’t moseying on up to the self checkouts and pretending to scan their items, they are just stuffing stuff in their bags or just rolling their carts right out the door.

The entire exercise reminds me of post 9/11 when buildings started hiring guards and making people scan in before entering a building, all performative and meant to deter but in actuality it won’t deter a real criminal. So everyone is else just gets inconvenienced. [/quote]
